The shuffle itself is accessible completely. Of course, putting
music on it via itunes is another matter. There's scripts for it,
but I've not used them, so can't comment on their usefulness. I've
found nothing to dump stuff on my ipod other than having itunes do it
automatically when you put in a cd. This is the method I use, and
while it works, it's not a very good solution, since there's no way
to tell it to transfer things already on your hd.
