Thanks Cheryl. Others have mentioned the archives are hard to search
because they lack a search feature.

Sure it's possible to look manually through each month of archives
and hope you're using the correct search terms (using the "find"
feature in whatever browser you're using) which may or may not be
included in a thread subject header. This gets more problematic as
more months are added to the archives. This is not a complaint
necessarily (this list is an incredibly valuable resource)...just a
statement of the reality of the situation.
For the posts you're referring to, you have to look well into the
sixth archive - September 2005 (seven archives in if you've started
your search from most recent to older). Are we suggesting that every
time a question is posted the poster search the archives manually?
That doesn't seem like a realistic expectation. It seems that some of
the veterans on the list might want to be reasonably comfortable with
re-posting a few details every now and then - or at least tolerate
those who ask a question again or wish to reopen a discussion. The
original discussion happened in September 2005. I wonder how many
have joined this list since then?
For those not interested in doing a manual search of each of the
archives, following is the original explanation posted by Cheryl:

point. then, if you want to see where you are, find using vokeys left
and right arrow the area that says "space" or "blank" right next to

archives aren't always easy to find things in, and I know I was
recently guilty with the ipod question, but it doesn't hurt to at
least search the archives for a relevant subject line. For those
whith fink or darwinports installed, admitedly it's a little easier
with lynx because you can just hit a slash on the page and search
for something relevant.
