Oops, I was mistaken!!!You do need tab browsing enabled under preferences in safari. But to move from one site to the next you click the buttons in the tab bar; for that you also need to check the "always show tab bar" also in tabs under preferences. The combinations I saw in preferences actually involve opening new links in tabs rather than moving from tab to tab.
