Ah, ok while I was reading it seemed there was other things that needed to be installed, but perhaps that was for additional funtionallity. Like I said, I read over the docs briefly, but wanted to know how accessible it was before I tried it out. I'm hoping at some point in the not to distant another app will find its way to the Mac, its Studio Recorder and its very slick.

There is just mainly the laim encoder if you would like to export to mp3 but thats all really.

for some reason my audacity says "Busy" for anything I do, and I have 768 of ram a and dual g4 533 which should be suitable for this task.

I just wanted to ask folks how successful were they with using Audacity to edit sound files, in particular I'm interested in editing mp3 files. I thought I'd ask before installing it as there seems to be quite a bit of additional stuff to really make it work so I wanted to be sure it was reasonably accessible before going through the process of installing all this stuff. Now perhaps I misunderstand what all has to be installed, but I got the impression from what I read there a few items needed before you can really get into editing mp3 files.
