I found the two to be about equal as to useability, however since I have used pro a lot, vice readiris, I am more used to it. As to lite, I am a little hazy at this point, not having used it for a few years, but as I recall it was much more limited and not as useful. For the cost of upgrading I would recommend doing so. Pro can be set up to be almost fully automatic, push button to start and thats all. It can control the scanner, do the ocr and put the result where ever you want it to go or, put it on the clipboard for you to paste somewhere or leave it on the screen for you to work it there. Of course it can be set up for all sorts of things but most of the time that is not necessary. I usually set it for multiple columns and to put the result into text edit. This way it will read either single or multiple columns and do its thing. I am told that they are going to release a universal binary version some time this summer. Pro right now is about three or four years old but runs well on either the power pc or the intel mac. Vickie Weir

Well I can't comment on teh quality on the output, but I found ReadIris to do a very good job, but perhaps I haven't pushed it to its limits. Now as far as ease of use, I found ReadIris much easier to use than Omni Page lite. Have you used this app? Can you comment if Prox is any easier to use or how have you found the accessibility of ReadIris as compared to Omni Page Prox? I would consider upgrading to the full version if its significantly better so any comments would be appreciated.

For the fun of it I compared the accuracy of readiris and omnipage prox a few weeks ago and there is a vast difference. Read Iris makes a lot of mistakes compared to omnipage Prox. Depending of course on the text being converted. Looking at the results I would estimate approx 80 to 85 percent accuracy on iris and 98to 99 percent on omnipage prox. Omni is almost always right, many pages without error. Cant say this for Readiris, many pages with errors, some with a lot of errors. Big difference in price unless you are upgrading from omni lite, but clearly better. Vickie Weir
