Macs could make a bigger market share for Apple if Windows can run on them.
This could especially happen if they become priced within the range of Dells
and Gateways and all the brands we're used to. Even though Apple doesn't
want to do it, they could allow the big PC guys to make boxes that run Mac
and really make money from the software, Ipods, Itunes, and the rest that
they make.

Why waste superior hardware on such an unstable and bug-filled operating

The hardware is not particularly superior (I speak of the guts of the
machines as opposed to the industrial design). It's the integration of
Mac OS and hardware which provides an advantage to the Mac OS user.
A number of reasons for why one would want to have the option of running
Windows OS on a Mac were proposed by posters. Condensed they are:
1. Makes it easier for those whose workflow depends entirely on Windows
to transition more easily to the Mac. Opens the Mac platform up to a
broader range of folks - particularly those who would need to straddle
the platforms for some time to make a transition.
2. Allows those who need frequent access to both Windows and Mac OS for
personal or professional reasons to have access to both OS's on a single
machine.
3. Allows developers to develop and test in more than one environment
without investing in (or having to carry with them) more than one
machine.
