This is getting seriously off topic, but ...
I went to the ACB convention in 2003 (and 2004) At one of those
conventions, I think it was 2004, nls and rfb&d were both there
showing off new hardware daisy readers. I asked them how one could
get the specs for the daisy format, in case I wanted to write a daisy
player, because I wasn't happy with the cost of the then existing
players.
I was told that they weren't giving specs out anymore, because in
their opinion there was enough players out already, and they wouldn't
accept any more development.
Since then, I've learned more, and discovered I don't need their help
to develop just a daisy player, but to read their content is another
matter.
Needless to say, I was quite ticked to see more products come out
after that conference that supported their technology.
Gee, I guess they wanted more developers after all. Hmm, must be
nice to be able to choose who gets the info and who doesn't. Kind of
reminds me of a particular large os company and one particular
adaptive technology ( and I use that term loosely) company.
