About the defragging.... This is somewhat speculation so feel free to YELL BS on me, but these are my 2 cents.

cent 1: When you upgrade software on there is a point in the load where you will see the action optimizing... I have always thought that is part of what it is doing.

cent 2: Spotlight and the OS keeps track of things in a much more constant way. It is my understanding that the system architecture has a much more advanced filing system... So I think the computer is always keeping track of things so it doesn't need a special time as much. Sorry if this message seems kindish... my 10 year old is talking to me as I type so I think her speaking mannerisms may have snuck in....
