Tim, that is what I thought, there's no need to use windows file
sharing when connecting to just Mac machines. All are running Tiger
10.4.6 and I've got the user name and password correct. I'm going to
try and just browse to them, but one thing I haven't checked, but
can't imagine how it would be an issue, but I'm using an AirPort
Extreme. I'm going to try and login from another Mac as well again to
be sure I didn't miss something and its really just one machine
behaving this way.
tnx

Scott,
You should not have to use Windows File Sharing. In fact, not that
it matters much at home, smb file sharing is less secure than AFP
when using MacOS X. As well, you will find that you have less
access to all volumes on the shared Mac when connecting using
Windows File Sharing. I can't remember specifically the original
post so hopefully I'm not out to lunch here but here are some ideas/
questions:
1. Try connecting via the IP address if you're not seeing the
other unit when browsing.
2. Check the username and password on the computer you wish to
connect to. The username must be exact, including spaces if any.
The username is not case sensitive and the password is.
3. Personal File Sharing only needs to be turned on on the unit
you're connecting to. That's not to say that the unit you're using
can't have Personal File Sharing turned on, it's just not needed.
4. Some issues have been noted when connecting to OS 9 from tiger
but the opposite is not true. If all the units are OS X, there
should be no problems.
Good luck.
