I have released a perl venison of xls2ssml.
http://w3.wmcnet.org/dtbmaker/xls2ssml/

This program will convert a Microsoft Excel (.xls) file into an SSML
file suitible to be made into a Daisy "book" using dtbmaker or sent to
any SSML enabled tts system. it required the linux program xlhtml. See
teh readme file.

When made into a Daisy book each sheet in the original file is treated
as a h1 heading in daisy each row and cell are phases.

Each table (sheet) row and cell are announced in a low voice with the
contents of the cell spoken at normal volume. It speaks it prompts in
English right now but I will fix that. The MacOSX version coming in a
few days will not require xlhtml program and will have a full user
interface.

Hope someone find this useful.
