saving html as plain text

I was wondering what folks were using to convert html files to plain text. I was attempting to use the program Ubt to transfer an html file to my Bookport, but it didn't convert it well and then I realized that this program seems only capable of dealing with plain text or mp3 files. I tried saving the file by opening it in Textedit first, but it seems rtf is the closest thing to text I can get.

Any suggestions appreciated.
