I wondered the same thing about the voices as the cepstral voices are  
showing some weird kind of wobble or modulation or something on my  
machine. But the "say" has its problems with being interrupted by  
voiceover. I really prefer speechissimo or Vicki in the Apple voices.  
One thing I did figure out in the case of the bookshare daisy books.  
You have an option to have an html file created besides the xml file.  
You can then put the html file in text edit and make it plaintext.  
Then you can use CSpeech to make an aiff file; no daisy navigation of  
course but it's ok if all you want to do is read. Just another  
alternative. Actually, you can also do this with any Gutenberg html  
files.
