Hi Danny,
You asked to hear from anyone using the Talking Communities chat
client, so here I am with my two cents worth.
There are two things I have done diferently which have caused me to
no longer have such issues with the launch program as before.
Perhaps they are mere coinsidence, but it no longer locks up on me,
nor is there any trouble quiting with the normal command+q.
First, the launch program is downloaded onto my desktop, fresh, each
occasion I visit the room, such as in Tuesday Topics, then discarded
after I quit. I tried logging in using a previously downloaded
version and had all kinds of trouble. Likewise when I had Safari's
preferences set to automatically open a program rather than
downloading it first.
Second, I have learned to trust the computer that places me in the
area I need to talk once the program is loaded. Therefore, all that
is needed is to wait till VoiceOver finishes its discussion
concerning the status of the launch program, then hold down the
control key when you want to talk.
There is certainly no intent here to insult your intelligence, but
for you, or anyone else who might not be familiar with this chat
client, one is put in the "Q" when the control key is depressed if
others are speaking. When it is your turn you will hear a chirp
sound letting you know you have the go-ahead to talk. It is wise to
keep the control key depressed for a few seconds after your last word
in order to make allowance for the time delay that occurs between
when words leave your mouth and get distributed through the server to
meet with someone's ears.
As of yet, we still cannot manouver within the window to send or
receive text messages, though one can see who is in the room before
launching the software. In fact, it is the moving around once the
program is loaded that causes it to lock up. One can even lock up
the entire chat so no one can talk as I had the embarrassing
experience of doing a while back. Good insentive to learn to trust
my Mac!
Hope your day is a marvelous one,
Cheryl Stewart

After going in to the politics room I clicked on the

button of the chat client.
However, java froze up, or that is the way it seemed to do.
I had to log out of my system. Then I sent the
launch
program to the trash.
I would like to hear from other people about their experiences with
this program.
