You didn't give us any background, but if this is a normal file, it  
should move to the trash.  However, if it was saved by another user  
to your desktop folder (permissions shouldn't allow this, but if  
you've messed with them, it is possible) then you won't be able to  
remove it, you'll have to be that user first.  Failing that, you  
could always become root, then remove the file, and it will go away  
then, with no problems.
