Darcy Burnard
Hi everyone. I'm not sure how many of you have subscribed to the
Screenless Switchers Podcast, but those of you who have, might be
wondering why we haven't done one in a while. So I thought I'd explain
what's been going on with me.
Only three short days after getting my MacBook, some weird problems
started happening. I thought it was something wrong with voice over, but
it was much worse. It turns out that the problems were symptoms of an
impending hard drive failure. That's when the fun began. I called apple
care, and they had me go through some tests to determine that the hard
drive was in fact dead. The person I was talking to then tells me that
the nearest apple service centre is in Chatham, which is about an hour and
twenty minutes drive from where I am. So I made transportation
arrangements to go there the next day. That morning, I called the service
centre to see if it could be done same day, and it's a good thing I did
because the person who answered told me that they were in fact not an
apple service centre. So I called apple care again, and the person told
me that I was given a name from the retail list and not the service list.
They then gave me the name of someone who's only twenty minutes away. So
I got the MacBook out to him later that afternoon. The next day, he calls
and tells me that Apple is out of stock on that drive, and they don't know
when more are coming in. Two weeks later, he finally hears from Apple
that the drive should ship on the seventh, which was last Friday. So I
called him last Friday, and low and behold no shipment. I then called
Apple Care for the third time to express my frustration. The guy told me
that since I had been waiting so long, he would do a priority part
re-allocation, which apparently meant the local service technitian would
have the drive in two business days. This passed Tuesday, I got another
call from the local service guy. He told me that he received the package,
but, apparently somewhere between Apple and Him, the drive had been
stolen, because the box was empty and the security label cut. As you can
imagine, I was frustrated as all hell by this point. I then called apple
care for the fourth time. The lady I talked to appologized perfusely, and
told me I would have another drive as soon as humanly possible. She then
said that since I'd been waiting for so long, I could have either a rental
mac, or I could have two items from the apple store up to $150 in value.
I opted for the items, since I need a case for my MacBook, or at least I
will if I ever see it again.
So with luck, the drive should arrive tomorrow. The guy told me that when
he gets it, he'll put it in right away, and deliver the computer to me, so
hopefully I'll have it soon.
As you might expect, I've been less then motivated to put a Mac Related
podcast together over the last little while. I hope that those of you who
subscribed haven't unsubbed thinking that we weren't doing the podcast
anymore. I want to insure all of you that there will be another
Screenless switchers podcast in the very near future regardless whether I
have my MacBook back or not. Holly's been doing a lot with her Mac, so
she'll have a lot to talk about.
