Also, if you want to make a playlist out of a whole directory, even  
with subdirectories, just open VLC, do cmd-d for disk, put the path  
to the directory or disk into the text field, and hit enter. when it  
starts to play, so you know there is no error, go into the menus and  
save the resulting playlist.
