The answer is that admin's can step in where there is disagrement (Gabe has kindly made me an admin, although I'm not sure what capabilities that now allows yet).

However, an even better way is for editors to use the discussion link for each page, or check on the list here.

If something seems to have changed and you want to change it back, check the discussion for that page and add something there before you change it. That way the next person knows why it was changed.
