It was the second part of the (joke?) story that made me pause, about virtualisation.

If you could run non-native applications on OSX easily (which I doubt they could), Voiceover would be useless on all these new, mostly free Windows applications.

VO requires good use of Apple's platform, which is why some programs work and some don't. Things like Firefox don't work as they use their own framework (e.g XUL). Things using another non-Apple framework wouldn't be accessible without major changes to VO.

Still, I wouldn't worry unless they actually do announce something like that, there are quite a few reasons they wouldn't want to take that approach that have nothing to do with accessibility.
