Almost all companies claim if you open the computer you invalidate
the warantee. This is a standard practice, to try to prevent folks
from upgrading their machines themselves. It's supposed to prevent
breakage due to inexperienced users from getting in and routing
around, but it just as often prevents legitimate users who *do* know
what they're doing from making a simple repair that instead, they
have to pay entirely too much to have done for them. I understand
why it's generally done, but I in no way agree with it. If anything,
I'd think they would encourage folks to fix their own machines, for
those that can, it would mean less work for them, and of those who
can't, it would mean extra income from fixing things that shouldn't
have needed it.
But then again, since when does the customer actually have any say in
what they are allowed to do with their own equipment.
