When I press control+option+shift+8, all I get is a beep.

I also went into system preferences to try to set the colors but all I could do is set the colors of 3 things. I'm not sure what they were. One of the menus seemed to be unlabeled. It gave me a choice of blue or graphite. Anyway, that doesn't seem to be what I want.
