Harry, Macvisionaries is a great source of information for things like 
this.  Many of your local area tech support people are not necessarily 
familiar with speech or screen access technology.  You might have to do 
a little experimenting, from time to time, but once you become more 
familiar with Mac commands and how VoiceOver looks at information on 
the screen, you will feel at home, but like any other screen access 
program, this will take a little patience.  Hang in there, my friend.
