I renamed it from my desktop
finder prompted me for my password
entered that
hit okay
and it changed am unsure if it changed the icon on the desktop or if it
changed the drive name
anyways that is what I did.
was that the corect way?

Tim is right; I've been adding steps I didn't need for some reason. You
don't have to interact with the name; just hit enter on it and rename it
and hit enter again. doesn't it show up on your desktop?
