Today was my first day on the job and it was most interesting. I got the chance to talk with the president of our local Anchorage Users' group and he apologized for not getting back with me, but looked forward to my coming to the next users' meeting, which will be September 26. He was shocked at the lack of blind and visually-impaired Alaskans, taking advantage of VoiceOver and the Mac. Before I left for the day, I ordered my Mac Mini, fully dressed, and it should arrive by the time our Alaska Permanent Fund dividend checks are issued. Too bad it won't be here in time for our annual Alaska Independent Blind state convention, which is at the end of the month. But no problem; I have my own machine ready to go. My first assignment, (not to begin till Octiber 9), is a couple of schools in the Anchorage School District, where I will be demonstrating VoiceOver, for the benefit of elementary school children, so that they can help blind students to learn it. So I probably won't be posting much until Saturday or sunday, my days off. So till then, take care everyone. Richie Gardenhire, Anchorage, Alaska.
