I know this issue gets discussed periodically but I'm needing some very practical feedback in order to make a decision. Right now I'm using an old Vera reader; it doesn't allow me to transfer files to the computer except that I can use a line-in connector to transfer audio as the Vera reads pages back. I can save pages on the vera but not as individual book files and I have to move back and forth by page; I just can't skip to various pages once a book has been scanned. I'd really like to be able to scan and have text files and even be able to translate to braille if I wish. My question is: Is the quality of scanning software and the accessibility with vo to a point yet where I can actually expect to scan mail and scan print books? I realize anything scanned is still going to require editing, especially in the case of a book, but I'd like to know whether I can actually do this yet to a reasonable degree.
