Hi Christian,

You said: i have some times noticed that even if there is text on a link VoiceOver just say link and nothing else. I have opened up the same pages in Internet Explorer and as i said, there is text. Has anyone else noticed this?

I suspect that this has something to do with the different ways that JAWS determines what text is attached to a link compared to how VO does this.

My understanding through experimentation is that VO looks at the code and determines the text between the <a> and </a>, which is the text that becomes colored when creating a link in HTML. If the web- developer is lazy and does not place any text there, VO reads it as simply a "link". You can often determine the path of the link by pressing VO keys+h. VO can read you the alt tag of an image if the web-developer puts the alt tag there. I haven't looked closely into image-links so I can't comment on those at this point.

My understanding with JAWS is that it is a little more indepth with its process. If the text is not present, it will look at the closest text to the link and determine which it will read to you as the appropriate text for the given link. Occasionally it's off-base but usually it's pretty accurate.

If that's the sort of explanation you are looking for, great. Otherwise, as others have mentioned, send us a URL that exemplifies your question and someone will take a closer look at it and hopefully come up with the answer you're looking for.
