Actually, I don't even think you need stuffit for zip archives; if you 
click on a zip archive it is opened and I don't think stuffit has anything 
to do with it. As to your question about "other archives", since you don't 
mention what other archives you are concerned about, it's hard to address 
your question. Maybe try opening the archive and if it doesn't open, then 
ask specifically about that type of archive.
