I don't know about other macs, but with the mini you can't really get 
surround unless you get a Griffin Firewave or an external soundcard. Then 
you go into audio midi setup and ccilk "configure speakers". Btw I think 
I've figured out the relationship of popup menus to channel buttons. I 
think you have to do vokeys-downarrow from the button to the corresponding 
popup menu instead of interpreting it linearly from left to right.
