hi

no as has been stated in a previous reply to the list, the macintosh operating system is totally different to taht of iwndows. to use windows screenreaders requires windows xp on the actual macintosh computer itself. It is a totally different operating system, Mac OSX tiger, and voice over is the access program to help a totally blind person like myself to navigate it.

While i like the macintosh i find that windows fo rme at present is more advanced. I have tried the macintosh tiger operating system on a macintosh computer and like it, but i will wait until leopard, 10.5 is released to see what accessibility features are included
regards, will

Subject: 10.4 Tiger operating system compatibility with other screenreadersaddendum

Greetings Will;

Thank you very much for your prompt reply to my inquiry. However, I may have miscommunicated the question I was proposing so I shall attempt it again. I realize the built in Apple screen reader allows access to the Apple/Mac operating system functions but my question was more focused on the Windows operating system of the Apple Tiger operating system. That is, will using the Windows operating system in this dual boot system allow a screen reader such as JAWS and/or Window-Eyes to also be used accessibly when using the Windows operating system portion of this operating system - 10.4 Tiger?

Hopefully more clear this time,
Dennis

hi

You can indeed install a full version of windows xp onto a macintosh
the screen reader built into the mac, is a natural way to read the tiger interface, it is built directlyinto the operating system itself
hope this help

Subject: 10.4 Tiger operating system compatibility with other screen readers

Greetings one and all;

My name is Dennis and I am a Apple/Mac rank amateur. I currently use a Windows operating system running the screen reader JAWS and to a lesser extent, Window-Eyes. I am considering giving the new Apple operating system a go, that being 10.4 Tiger, in some kind of computer configuration but in all probability a Macbook. I realize that the Apple operating system mentioned above has a built in screen reader, of whose accessibility for visually disabled persons I will let others comment on but I am curious about something. Since the new Apple operating system is a dual boot system, is it possible to run another screen reader, JAWS and/or Window-Eyes, on it in conjunction with "Voice Over"? If so, how accessible would the second screen reader be in your estimate using a rating scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the most inaccessible and 10 being the most accessible?

Thank you for what ever assistance you can give me,
Dennis
