It could be that your PDF files have no text to the. they are in
effect pictures of printed pages stored in PDF format. If this is the
case there is no way to convert them to text. If you can send me one
and I'll take a look at it.
The only way to convert .tif to text is with some sort of OCR program
as tif file are just raster images.
