I've been playing with the demo on and off for the last couple of days and I have some thoughts. I haven't decided yet whether I will buy the program or not. First the good. Te OCR seems to be relatively good, it has some trouble with strange fonts it seems like, but I've scanned books and a typed letter from someone and it did a pretty good job. Its relatively accessible I was able to perform the tests without too much guesswork.

The bad. When batch scanning it seems like you have to make sure each page that you scan is rotated the same way otherwise the file comes out looking really strange. Also I've discovered a bug. When I scan a document and recognize and save the document then in the same session of read iris I want to scan another document I can't figure out how to get rid of the old document and thus it causes a problem. I can scan the new document just fine, but then when I go to save it read iris crashes. In my mind this is a huge problem because I don't want to have scanned a 50 page document only to have it crash when I'm running or on it. Also this isn't directly related to read iris pro but the dialog that comes up when I hit scan is not very useful. But I think that's related to my scanner I have a canoscan lide 60.

I guess its not a huge amount of money to spend, and it does a good job, but the crashing thing worries me though. Overall I'd probably give the program a 6 or so out of 10. Unfortunately though it seems we don't have a huge amount of choice for or on the mac.

I may be doing some of this wrong, if anyone has found some shortcuts etc with read iris pro, let me know.
