HI Greg,
You're right in saying that Macs are still very common in the studio, though these days I don't fully understand why. I also agree that nowadays those multi in/out sound cards are not so awfully expensive like they used to be about five years ago when I updated my PC. And from the average consumer's point of view, not offering old PCI expandability is probably going to be a wise move, as most interesting hardware is external these days.

I'd like to have PCI support for Macs simply as I wouldn't want to throw away my old hardware, as it works OK. I might need to update the audio side at some point but preferrably for a reason other than pure hardware compatibility. Granted I could get a 1x1 USB sound card for the Mac for basic recording and be prettty happpy with it, I guess.

I wonder how expensive that Magma bord would be and if it does work even if I wouldn't get Pro Tools or some other DigiDesign products to go with it. I had a hard time finding it on the DigiDesign site, I suppose it counts as an accessory for Pro Tools.

I have a catalog of this king of stuff from BH Photo www.bhphoto.com
in New York City. looking at the website I noticed a number of
devices with as many as 26 inputs for less than $400 that worked via
FireWire.

I'll be the first to admit however that I understand little of this
