I paid about $100 since there wasn't any other ram available or it
might have been more I can't recall. It was Apple's ram which is fine
since the deal I got on the box, well I didn't mind spending the
extra money. And yes, I did install it myself.

Sure, the machine comes with 512Mb and you can easily add a 1Gb
stick, that's what I did so I have 1.5Gb ram on the box.

If you call the vents underneath speakers, then yes. I imagine
sound does come from there, but I think of them more as inlets
for air, but yes, those screws are on a vented plate which is
about the length of a stick of ram, what, 4 or 5 inches. Has
two flush philips screws at either end and they are small.
