If you know the name of the podcast you are after you can search for that
with the search field.

m also still looking for a way to get into podcasts in the itune store.
Typing 'podcasts" in the search field did bring up some but i'm not sure
it will get all of them. There was a message whenever I hit "podcasts"
when I first started to go to the podcast directory but unfortunately I
checked the "do not show again" box.
