That info is not entirely correct.
Quite, my apologies! I did not go back far enough. I think even the first Apple II had the control key, back in 1978 or so. The IIe in 1983 had all three keys, and the Open and Closed Apple were wired to be identical to joystick/paddle fire buttons!
