It is also hard for me to imagine why anyone would learn latex just  
for tables.  Personally I use it to write pretty much everything in  
college.  TeXShop by itself fulfilles the work of MS Word, some of  
Excel, and even powerpoint.  Yes latex is the best thing.  I think  
everyone should use it and drop these silly "what you see is what you  
get" processors altogether.  If the world were as I imagine it,  
everyone would change over to latex.
