Hi Josh,

>From my understanding, I also thought you can't boot from a USB external
drive.

But for whatever reason if you installed Tiger to the firewire drive,
before you start the computer, turn on the firewire drive, then turn on the
computer and it will boot straight to the firewire drive with holding down
any keys during boot up.

Regarding your other questions, not sure of.

Subject: Alternative boots from external hard drives questions

I'd like to clarify a few things I'm confused on.

Is it, or is it not, possible to boot from a USB external hard
drive? If it is possible, how, as I can't seem to sort out. I know
you can boot from a firewire drive by holding the T key and boot
time. If I can boot from a USB drive, I'd be an extremely happy camper.

As for Firewire drives, I purchased one but later returned it as it
required more power to work than the MacBook provides from the
firewire port, and I don't wish to be encumbered with a power
adapter. Can anyone suggest a small, portable firewire drive that
can operate satisfactorily without an external power supply on a
MacBook? Thanks.
