I understand what prompted the discussion about list
courtesies, but I honestly must observe that this list is really not
much different than just about every email list or forum you can find
out there. I think this list might be a bit smaller in number than
several of the others I am subscribed to, but the types of people and
messages are really nothing "new" in my experience. I guess all lists
have specific people who play specific roles during the course of
time. We have witnessed a number of debates and discussions, but
have, overall, helped each other out a great deal. I can personally
say that my knowledge of VoiceOver was enhanced and increased
significantly because of the contributions of list members over the
two plus years I have been on it.
Personalities are going to clash and topics might galvanize us,
but we really should try not to forget what the list is meant to do
for blind Mac users. Unfortunately, along with the helpful posts,
information given and encouragement, you're going to encounter
trolling and a variety of attitudes as well. Any new person to this
list should realize this fact if they frequent other list
communities. It's the nature of the beast, I'm afraid. I'm not
making excuses here, folks, for anyone, but just pointing out a
reality that I have, at least, come to learn.

Its extremely unfortunate that I've just learnt that perhaps one of
the "most learned" members of this list has decided to quit it for
good because of what's happened over the last 12 hours, shame
because we can never get enough people to give others a hand.

Thanks, Cheryl, for putting this in its proper perspective. I just
followed this thread a few minutes ago and saw your post. I was
steered to this list by a fellow Mac user from another state. I
have learned a lot of valuable information from this list to help me
to more efficiently use my machines here at home. Hopefully, as I
learn more, I can be of help to someone out there who may be just
getting comfortable with their computers; after all, learning is
living. Richie Gardenhire, Anchorage, Alaska.
