I can't tell how well it is working with out a fully working screen
reader.

You can't run Parallels or Fusion on a PPC, but if you have the
old Virtual PC program and you run Windows with it, you could run
sharpKeys. I don't imagine that screenreaders would work well in
such a setup though.
