It is a person handling it.
Also, if I order on CD, does this mean that the code is written on

You would first receive an email with the code to get you started
straight away with the download version and a CD will be shipped
later. even if you get it on CD it is still a good idea to keep the
email with the codes in case you later need to resinstall or install
a newer version.
These things are typically done once or twice per day.
