That's right. What I am thinking of doing is the have DTBmaker
generate the chaptertool xml file for the book as it generates all the
DAISY files. In that way when you convert on of my DAISY books to iPod
audio book format the converter tool DTB2iTunes will check if that
file is with the DAISY files and will use it to put in the chapters in
the audio book file it creates.

Hi Vickie,
Chapter Tool was a software beta program that Apple released when they
first started supporting podcasts in iTunes. It allowed users to
insert chapter
markers, images, and links to web pages in "enhanced podcasts". It
provided
a way of inserting "chapter markers" into these aac files so that
you could
navigate to them with keyboard shortcuts and with the arrow keys on
the
iPod. As far as I know, it only works as a command-line beta
program although
some people have written GUI interfaces to use it. Doug Adams at the
AppleScripts for iTunes site wrote a Join Together and Chapterize
AppleScript.
This isn't as flexible as you might think, since you have to write
out and
create a completely new file with chapter markers, and sometimes the
operation
has been broken in newer versions of iTunes. As far as I know,
Apple has
never upgraded the software beta since they released it. The
program also
has to be placed in a specific directory to work.
This used to be available as a link at the bottom of the Garageband
podcast
page, but I think you can find it at mac.softpedia.com and other
places if you
google for it.
Greg can probably tell you more about this.
Cheers,
Esther

I have a simple tool that will make an iPod audio book out of a
DAISY
digital talking book provided the audio is in playable order and in
MP3 format. DTBmaker produces books like this. I have added an
option
to DTBmaker that will make a chapter tool XML file at the same time
as you make the book. With this and Apple's Chapter Tool program
you
can convert book to iPod audio books with chapters.
The Chapters are made for each heading of the book as it is being
recorded and the XML file is placed in the books folder I am
thinking
of changing my DTB2iTunes program to look for this file and if it is
there to make the book a chapter enable book.
Any comments?
