We started out by dragging the Splitter to the bottom of the window by holding down the mouse button and dragging the way sighted users do and hoping for the best. Then at some point someone discovered that double-clicking did the trick, so that's what we do now.
Sorry not to be more precise but my memory isn't good enough to give chapter and verse on the subject.
