I never use the file menu for this. I open the message, hear "Toggle
attachments view", click this, navigate right to the Save button,
click it, select Save All, navigate right to "Where" followed by a
popup button which will say something like Desktop or Documents. This
is where the attachment will go by default. You can change it by
clicking on the popup button and selecting another destination. To
the right, you will find a file browser showing the files in the
folder you have slected. Interact with this browser and go to the
file you want, then stop interacting and go right until you hear
Cancel followed by Save. Click Save and your attachment is where you
want it to be.
This sounds complicated, but once you've done it, it's really easy.
