Burn Folder
When in the Finder under the File menu you will find a command: "New
Burn Folder".
This is a special folder that creates aliases to items you frequently
burn to CD or DVD.
Create a Backup folder somewhere in your home directory, within that
create as many separate burn folders as you desire.
In this example I will use backing up Mail.
1) Create a general backup folder, you can then place that folder in
the Sidebar by selecting folder and using Command T (Step one is
optional).
2) (Within that) create a "New Burn Folder" and name it Mail Backup.
3) Open a second Finder window and Navigate to the Library within
your home directory. Within that folder navigate to the Mail Folder.
4) With the Mail folder selected, create alias with Command L, (In
list view the alias will be one line item below the item you aliased,
Command 2 for list view.)
5) Select the alias and copy (Command C).
6) Use the window chooser (Control Option F2 F2) to select the Mail
Backup folder.
7) Paste the alias into that folder.
8) Return to the LIbrary by your window chooser (Control Option F2 F2)
9) Delete the alias you just pasted into your burn folder if you
desire (there is no harm in leaving it).
Repeat these steps for:
Mail Downloads (~/Library/Mail Downloads)along with Mail Preferences
(~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist)
To use the "Burn Folder" with VoiceOver. When you navigate in a
finder window of a selected burn folder Your VoiceOver curser will
run across the tool palette at the top of the window and then the
Sidebar, Vertical Splitter, and then, Unknown (it is a horizontal
strip above the content area). Interact with "unknown" by Control
Option Shift Down Arrow, there are two items, the name of the folder
and the button to "burn". Activate the burn button with Control
Option Space Bar. A dialogue window will appear giving you the chance
to name the CD, burn speed along with notification of approximate
size of burn.
Note: The burn folder is meant to contain alias of items you wish to
burn NOT the original item itself. When done in the visual world of
drag and drop, that is very obvious. IF one simply copied and pasted
the original item into the burn folder it will not be burning what
one intended. Please take care not to move or delete the items I have
listed!
