What gets put on the dock is only a program shortcut not the program itself.
1) download the file, 2) open the dmg file on the desktop, 2.1 examine the
contents if one of them is called install or installer.pkg, command-o
on that file, 3) open applications command-shift-a and search for the
application to show up in applications folder if already there well and
good you can eject the application, 4) if application isn't in
applications, go to dsktop and select it and do command-c to copy the
sucker, 4.1) go back to applications command-shift-a and then type
command-v to paste item, If the computer runs for a while and you don't
hear voiceover talking it's probably copying your new download into
applications, 5) go back to desktop and then return to applications and
see if you can find your new application there, if so, open it with
command-o and see what happens, if new stuff happens well and good exit
out with commnd-q then return to desktop and original application and
   eject it.

Can someone please help me with understanding the file download process please? I download the program to my desktop, open the .dmg file, go to the computer folder and open the application and have to open in the doc. Last I delete the image by ejecting it and the program is gone. It will not open from the doc. All I know to do is re-install it again. Last I need to know how to put programs into my applications folder. This assistance will be appreciated.
