It's not horrible but not super either. My peak speed on Cox cable is about 500K or so a second. That said, downloads are only as fast as the weakest link. If your source is slow then it doesn't matter how fast your local broadband connection is. For a test, try downloading something big from a large service like an AOL client. You don't have to install it or anything, just use it to see how fast you can go.
