That application would have to be awefully useful and capable of serious productive capacity for me to do that. It could be done, but would have to be very worthwhile. I was a dos user before windows came along and didn't mind that existence in the least so learning curves really aren't an issue with me.

The idea with the issue of a setting in the application for VoiceOver
optimization is that it would override too many settings in a way I'm
not even sure is possible that easily, and would be additional bloat
for the vast majority of users who'll never use that option. And just
how many applications out there have a specific checkbox for VO
optimization to begin with? There's really no readme, so odds are
unless the user went through the prefs individually, it wouldn't be
discovered. There's no installer, and there's only one version of the
application. I want to do as much as I can from a general perspective
to improve the accessibility of the application, but some of the
customizable parts (e.g. themes) vary wildly in what they support, and
hence, how accessible the particular style would be. My idea would be
to do what I can in the app, and then provide some sort of additional
download package that includes VO/accessibility friendly themes and
support files.

As for "is it worth it" ...

True. I'm not sure if it's worth it, but it was enough to make
someone file a ticket (albeit from a developer). The application in
question is Colloquy, an IRC client. There are plenty of IRC clients
out there, including the likes of irssi, linkinus, xchat aqua, snak,
ircle..and I'm sure Adium is including IRC support in an upcoming
version, but Colloquy would be the only open-source Cocoa based one
which also supports silc, jabber etc. I have to say some clients out
there fare better than Colloquy does, but some of the issues mentioned
in the aforementioned ticket and that I've heard firsthand are things
that could be fixed simply only by changing styles and a few other
files, plus fiddling around with some settings (although, on second
thought, some of those can be built into the style).

So yes, it's a simple question about whether or not it's worth it to
do that work if not many people will take advantage of it, and if
changing a couple of existing settings can make your experience much
better. Some of the changes I have in mind are somewhat drastic ones
I'm not sure even the main colloquy dev will like.

Thanks for the advice though. I haven't started much and I'm not sure
about the feasibility of the VO optimization setting, but it certainly
sounds like an interesting concept I'll keep in mind.

cheers,
jane
