Liquid CD and computer not reconizing disc

Listers I have two problems, one is that when I put a blank CD in my  
drive it doesn't show up in my computer directory with the other  
removable media. CD's with music on it however will show up with the  
CD name and tracks. The other problem (for all the liquid CD users  
out there) my panel says it is ready to burn and it is highlighted to  
press burn, I know this because if I eject the disc it diems and when  
I put it back in it gets ready to burn again. What do I do for these  
two problems. By the way are there any free CD and DVD programs out  
there that you all use FOR BURNING?
