Hi listers, We've discussed AssistiveWare's text-to-speech products on the list before, so I thought I'd mention that GhostReader is today's featured MacUpdate software promo at $24.95 instead of the regular $39.95 price for the next nearly 12 hours.
http://www.mupromo.com/ A few caveats: this is the single user license with American English InfoVox/iVox voices only. GhostReader is one of their mainstream market text-to-speech products that allows you to navigate web pages and documents by paragraphs, sentences and repeat text, turn documents and web pages into audio files as well as listen to them, etc. You can also change voices on the fly for different parts of the text. It's navigation options are currently slightly ahead of their VisioVoice product which really is directed towards the blindness market. GhostReader is probably more appropriate for a low-vision user (or even a user without accessibility issues). Also, because this is not a multi-lingual license, you can't use this for dual-language text, which is an area in which the InfoVox/iVox voices really shine, in my opinion. You can download and try out GhostReader from MacUpdate: http://www.macupdate.com/download.php/23466/GhostReader.dmg or you can go to the ConvenienceWare pages for info: http://www.convenienceware.com/ghostreader.php Here's the general MacUpdate page with review comments for GhostReader: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23466/ghostreader As I said, this is mainly for low-vision folks, I think, but I'm getting a copy of this for someone who will use this for English only text-to-speech. (I haven't tried this myself -- only read the descriptions and been intrigued by this because of the experience with VisioVoice). Hope this is of interest. This is a 38% discount Cheers, Esther
