I've just been looking at Keynote again and find that speech balloons
crash VoiceOver. VO will read text boxes, however.
If these PowerPoint files are course work, why not ask the person
producing them to save them as Word documents? It would be easier for
that person to do it than for you unless you are also using Windows.
