Hi,
Actually, I think the behavior is application specific. It's really
in Safari that I'm seeing this the most. Try Safari and say,
http://www.macintouch.com/ and select all, and try your key
combination to speak text. I always get "Copy" and nothing else.
I understand what is going on. When you do speak selected text, it
copies it to the clipboard and tries to read the text flavor of the
clipboard, but the "copy" action is picked up by voice over as a menu
action from the edit menu and it says copy, and clobbers the text
you're trying to have read.
There are several applications that seem to do this. Safari is my main gripe.
I don't use Apple mail; I use Eudora. They have the best code I've
seen to translate an email message to voice, doing things like
skiping headers, translating smiley faces :), trancating urls. It's
great. Too bad it's end of lifed.
Best,
Scott
Actually, I used it in tiger, at least in mail. Will try it again
now in Leopard and post what happens. It would sometimes say copy
but then would read in tiger. I'm a bit behind with things because I
had my carpet shampooed and had to move a lot of my computer
equipment. Will check this as soon as I can.
